Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi's personality in the light of his letters

Abstract

Letter writing is an old tradition in Urdu language. Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi’s writing style is conversational which reveals many secret aspects of his life. This tradition is still applicable today. These letters not only reflects various aspects of his personality, but also deep relationships to renowned literary persons of his time. Many literary persons, poets, fiction writers and critics paid rich tribute to his services for the revival of Urdu literature. Qasmi was highly decent fellow to whom people like to share their sufferings and personal affairs. Qasmi’s letters are also important from historical point of view. He also wrote letters to his wife and son, which highlights beautiful colours of his personal life. We also find literary imformation from his letters. No dout Qasmi’s letters to his predcecessors also gain high value of Urdu literature. Qasmi wrote letters to Manto (famous Urdu fiction writer), Mansoora Ahmad, Fatih Mohammad Malik and different famous literary persons. He was also the editor of “Fanoon” a famous Urdu magazine of his time. In this purpose he wrote letters for new poets and fiction writers. In this article, we will shed light on Qasmi’s personality reflected in his letters.
