Abstract
Sir Syed Ahmad Khan (1817-1898 AD) was a versatile personality.He is known as a far-sighted Reformer of the nation, educator, historian, researcher, writer, religious scholar, Qur'anic commentator. Although much has been written about the all-round personality of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, much remains to be written.When Sir Syed took steps for social reform, he was alone in the crowd of thousands. One of the great achievements of Sir Syed is that he not only diagnosed national diseases but also accurately assessed their causes.
Sir Syed believed in the living moments of the present time and was striving for the identity of the sub-continent. In the same search, he left for London on First of April, 1969 and stayed in London till 4th September. He continued to write travelogue and send to Aligarh which were published in Akhbar Aligarh institute. Later, this travelogue of Sir Syed, entitled 'Musafiran e London', was published by Majlis-e-TaraqiAdab, Lahore, almost a century after his death.
The special thing about this travelogue is that along with all the details of the journey, some special aspects of Sir Syed's personality also come to the fore. During this journey, he is repeatedly reminded of his homeland. Hardly a day goes by without a purpose. It seems that during this journey, he never lost sight of his people. The outlines of the nation-reform plan continued to form in his mind. The reader feels that Sir Syed himself is undergoing a process of self-accountability as a nation. That is why this travelogue of Sir Syed is also a statement of his mental and esoteric events.
The purpose of this article is to highlight the different aspects of Sir Syed's personality in the context of 'Musafiran e London'.
