Abstract

Ratan Nath Sarshar (1846-1902) was a novelist and journalist. In his novels he created some humorous characters to present culture of Lucknow especially his humorous character "Khoji" is very popular. Sajad Hussain (1856-1915) was also a journalist and a novelist. He started first humorous newspaper "Awadh punch" in 1877 from Lucknow. In his novels he also presented culture of Lucknow. For this purpose he created humorous characters. "Haji Baghlol" is a well known and popular humorous character. This article will provide a comparative study in the writings of Ratan Nath and Sajjad Hussain. Especially, a critical analysis will be carried out to represent the Lakhnawi Culture by showcasing the talents of these humorous characters.
