Abstract
Though Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was working hard to promote education in the sub-continent, he was not much in favour of girl’s education. This article discusses the reasons behind Sir Syed’s stance on the issue and explains social, religious and cultural background which had created a general opposition and dislike for female education in British India’s orthodox society.
