Abstract
The advent of Postmodernism within Urdu literature was first discernible around 1990. We are currently living in a postmodern era. It is hypothesized that Postmodernism has significantly influenced, and continues to influence, Urdu Nazm (poetry). This paper, titled Postmodernism and Urdu Poetry—A Research-Based and Analytical Study, seeks to empirically examine this hypothesis. The methodology involved an initial analysis of Modernism’s global evolution, followed by a discussion of the contributing factors leading to the emergence of Postmodernism. Key postmodern elements, namely Structuralism and Post-Structuralism, were also investigated. Subsequently, the political, historical, social, and literary relationship between Postmodernism and Urdu Nazm was thoroughly discussed. This study incorporated an analysis of poetry from several prominent poets, including Noon Meem Danish, Naseer Ahmed Nasir, Mustafa Arbab, Saeed UdDeen, ZeeshanSahil, ShakeelAzmi, Agha Qazlibash, Rafi ShabnamAbidi, Saleem Ansari, and Naheed Akhter. The research findings confirm a profound connection between these elements, substantiating the claim that Postmodernism has demonstrably impacted Urdu Nazm.
