Abstract
Mirza Salamat Ali Dabeer (1803-1875) was a renowned Urdu poet who specifically excelled and perfected the art of Marsiya. Dabeer, along with Mir Anees, played a key role in the transformation and amplification of Urdu Marsiya as a well distinguished genre of poetry. Being a representative of Lucknow School of Poetry, Dabeer had a diversified command on peculiar language. He wrote hundreds of Marsiyas. He also penned an undotted Marsiya (Ghair-e-Manqoot). It is considered a unique piece of art in Urdu Marsiya. In this, in addition of using variety of undotted alphabets, he also used "Utarid" as his penname instead of Dabeer.
