Abstract
Travelogue is a prosaic genre of literature. Literature encompasses the expression of human emotions, sentiments and thoughts. When a tourist pens all this, it becomes a travelogue. Before 1909 many travelogues were written in South Asia but none of those contains insight about cities of Pakistan except the travelogue (Sayyahat-e-Hind) by Maulana Hafiz Abdul Rehman Amratsari. This travelogue provides a detailed historic view of almost all cities of India. Also, it provides details about cities of Punjab & Sindh namely Lahore, Pak Pattan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Uch, Sukkur, Bhakkar, Rorhi, Kheirpur, Keranchi (Karachi), Hyderabad and Quetta via Sehwan Sharif. This travelogue provides details about twenty four big cities of Pakistan. The genre of travelogue has flourished in the 21st century but this travelogue due to its historical accounts and interesting facts deserves a special place among other contemporary travelogues. It is the only travelogue written before 1909 which provides detailed view of all cities of Pakistan. Therefore it must be considered as the very first travelogue of Pakistan.
