Abstract
Sir Syed AHmed Khan was one of the leaders of the subcontinent who had a keen sense of historical events and a clear historical consciousness. His other works too are evidence that his command over history was extraordinary but his book 'Asbaab-e-Baghaavat-e-Hind was truly remarkable in the sense that in this book he did not only fought for the rights of Muslims of the subcontinent but also tried to convince the British that there were certain reasons behind the 1857 war of freedom, which the British called 'mutiny'.
In this paper the writer has analysed this book in its historical perspective and also traced the logic and impressive style with which Sir Syed convinced the British of the mistakes made by them. The paper lays stress on Sir Syed's historical consciousness and his indepth knowledge of history.
