Abstract
About 122 years have elapsed since Altaf Hussain Hali's "Muqaddma-e-Sher-o-Shaeri" appeared. Ever since this epoch- making work in Urdu criticism and principles of criticism, Urdu criticism has been looking for its true identity. This article traces the history of Urdu criticism, its present status and the scenario that is likely to evolve in future.
