Abstract

Out of the Western literary genres, novel - considered a sophisticated form of story (daastaan) - has gained a great deal of acceptance and fame in the sphere of Urdu prose.  Contrary to the mysterious and unreal environment of Daastaan, the live characters of novel mirror life colors in a real and clear-cut style.  Among the litterateurs who have highlighted and interpreted different aspects of life giving new meaning thereto, one name is certainly of Akhter Reza Saleemi. In addition to his two successful poetry collections already having been published, his first-ever exciting novel "Jaage hain khawab mein" has established his skill as a prose writer as well. Written against the backdrop of Syed Ahmad Shaheed movement, Hazara culture and civilization has been depicted in quite a new manner. The article under review discusses some literary  aspects of this novel.
