Of late, Urdu literary criticism fell victim to superfluous play of words. Oblivious of the principles of critical evaluation,critics now try to judge pieces of literature either according to their own rules or under the influence of western influence. Still they fail to justify their point of view.Such pseudo intellectuals and part-time critics have failed the aim of criticism as their efforts are detached from our classical culture and civilisation which was a benchmark.In this situation,revival of quality criticism rests on the shoulders of a few men of letters.This article analyses the problems faced by Urdu in the field of criticism and point out a dearth of genuine critic.
