Abstract
Poem (nazm) is a genre of Urdu poetry that appeared quite late on literary horizon. English literature and criticism had an ever-lasting impact on the genre of Urdu poem. Urdu poem became a tool of political expression in the post-1857 era because of the influence of English literature. This article evaluates the political background of some long Urdu poems by some well-known Urdu poets.
