Sultan Hyder josh  )1881-1953( was  a prominent fiction writer of  urdu who is known for his satirical writings,novels, short stories and dramas. Josh`s writings have a specific social background.He had  some specific views viz-a-viz modren education, political situation and social problems. With his  reformist stance, josh stressed revival of islamic values but later  his anti -west stance had softened.This article analyses social background of Sultan Hyder josh`s Urdu short stories.
